Our Food for Life program currently operates
from 188 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley. Shrila
Prabhupada especially said that Australia would be conquered by
mass distribution of prasadam. The Food for Life program is meant
to purify the city by mass distribution of sanctified foodstuff
to anyone and everyone. The Food for Life Centre is open from 12
midday to 2 pm Monday to Friday. Many devotees like to sponsor this
free distribution of prasadam and if you are interested please contact

Offering Food
Lord Krishna explains in the Bhagavad-Gita
patram puspam
phalam toyam
yo me bhaktya prayacchati
If one offers Me with love and devotion
a leaf, a flower, fruit or water, I will accept it.
He also says those who offer with love and devotion are free from
all their sins whereas those who prepare food only for their own
sense enjoyment verily eat only sin and therefore become implicated
in the karmic activities of killing. Therefore the offering of food
is a very important part of the practices of the Krishna Consciousness
Movement.
Offering of Food to Lord Krishna can be done by anyone and the process
is very simple. They need only to take a picture of Lord Krishna
and prepare vegetarian foodstuffs in a very clean environment. Non-vegetarian
foods and also onion and garlic are not offerable to the Lord so
therefore the offering must not contain these foodstuffs. After
the food has been prepared we can simply place it on a plate which
is specially kept for the Lord and we can chant the Hare Krishna
mantra and offer the food to Lord Krishna in our mind. After we
have offered the food to Lord Krishna it becomes prasadam or the
mercy of the Lord and then we ourselves can partake of the food.
By this simple process we can overcome all bad karmic activities
associated with eating and progress quickly on the path of spiritual
realization back home back to Godhead. It is also very nice to chant
the mantras offering the prasadam to Shrila Prabhupada and Lord
Chaitanya as well and this can be done in the following way by chanting:
nama om
visnu-padaya Krishna-presthaya bhu-tale
srimate bhaktivedanta-svamin iti namine
namas te sarsvate deve gaura-vani pracarine
nirvesesa-sunyavadi-pascatya-desa-tarine
namo maha-vadanyaya
krishna-prema-pradaya te
krishnaya krishna-caitanya-namne gauratvise namah
In India the offering of foodstuffs and distribution
of prasadam is a very popular part of the Vaisnav culture. If you
go to any Temple of Lord Visnu in India you can request prasadam
that has been offered to the Lord and at many Temples the offering
of prasadam is extremely elaborate such as Jagannath Puri Temple
where more than 52 preparations are offered to the
Lord many times a day.
